"To Know Christ and Make His Love Known"

The John Wesley Sermon Studies group is a Small Group of Grace United Methodist Church, North Augusta, SC.  We formed our group in January of 2020 to study the "Standard Sermons" of the founder of Methodism, John Wesley.  Our group currently consists of six couples.  We meet weekly (virtually!) to read and discuss the fundamentals of Wesleyan theology as reflected in the sermons of John Wesley.

We are "traditionalists."  Our core beliefs, as taught by Wesley, are:

  • The Holy Bible – the whole Bible – is the eternal, inspired Word of God.

  • All people are sinners, subject to the penalty of sin, in need of God’s Grace.

  • We can only be reconciled to God if we repent of our sins, believe that Jesus paid our penalty by sacrificing His life for ours, and trust in Him to take away our sins. We can all be saved this way, no matter who we are or what we have done.

  • God’s authority does not change from generation to generation or according to cultural norms. God is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.

  • John Wesley taught that, when Scripture is clear about a teaching, Scripture has precedence over tradition, reason, and experience.
